Campering in Colorado! - by Tom

Updated: Apr 1, 2018

Day 1 - We drove for a long time to Cheyenne Mountain State Park, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As soon as the car stopped, I jumped out to meet my friends who had stayed there the night before. We took turns riding some scooters through the mostly empty campground while the camper got set up.

Day 2 - In the morning we hurriedly ate breakfast then burst open the camper door and ran outside. We got our water backpacks on and went for a short hike. We found a giant rock which we turned into our "base." It had a lookout point and a hidden shelter surrounded by thorn bushes with a secret path through them.

Later that day we headed out to go "geocaching." We found 3 geocaches where we traded small items like toys and Pokemon cards. It was getting dark so we headed back. That night we had a fire and smores.

Day 3 - We woke up to the wind blowing up a gale outside. In fact it, was blowing at 20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. That day we went to play bowling to escape the wind and smoke blowing in from a fire on a hill near the campground. After bowling we did crafts in the camper with our friends.

Day 4 - On the morning of Day 4 we went to a Ghost Town Museum where we watched a Colorado Gold Rush video, played a shooting game, saw relics from the days of the wild west, and pretended to drive in an old-time stage coach. My favorite item was the dentist's drill which was huge and looked extra painful.

Later that day we drove through a park called Garden of The Gods. There were giant pillars of red rock but no "garden." (Don't come here if you are looking for flowers).

Day 5 - The wind finally let up, providing us a smooth drive home.

I love our new camper. Camping with our friends was so much fun. I can't wait to do it again!
