Goblin Valley State Park, Utah

Check out our video on YouTube about our adventure to Goblin Valley State Park:

Approximately 50 miles SW of Green River Utah lies a 3 square mile playground where no swings or slides are necessary. The eroded rocks of Goblin Valley State Park provide hours of climbing fun for the whole family. Named for the gnome-like appearance, the rocks have been weathered over time to leave behind large sandstone-capped formations perfect for exploring. You can climbed on top, through, or around the structures. We spent an afternoon exploring the formations under the warm May sun. The gravel trail down to the "goblins" is only about 100 meters (all steps) and is accessible form the parking lot.

Other areas of the state park provide recreation activities like camping (reservations can be made 4 months in advance), frisbee/disk golf, mountain biking, hiking, shopping or learning in the visitor's Center, and there is even a marathon in the park in October. The entrance fee is $15 for day use or free if you hold a Utah state Park pass ($75 per year)

The kids completed the Junior ranger program and learned about science and history. They enjoyed the freedom of being able to explore the rocks from all angles. We ate a picnic lunch in the shade of the rocks and I tested out some new camera equipment while the kids climbed. I would recommend the park for climbing and exploring the rocks but I would suggest avoiding the summer months, if possible.
